The Fall reading tour concluded last night at the Waco Charter School, with Missy Balusek reading Rat’s Tale and having fun sharing Rat with the students. The Fall Literacy Reading tour spanning from September through December stopped at the following Central Texas schools:
- Texas Christian Academy
- Columbus Avenue Baptist Preschool
- St. Paul’s Day School
- Mountainview Elementary
- Dean Highland Elementary
- Waco Charter School
Children’s literacy is an issue close to Missy’s heart because she believes it sets the stage for success in life. She says,
“If you are not literate, you cannot be educated. If you are not educated, you can’t contribute as well to society, and it makes your life more difficult.”
Missy contends that the reading you do as a child is the most important reading you do in your life.
“Reading is an important pastime to acquire at a young age. It contributes to a child’s vocabulary, imagination, and speech.”
Thank you to all the teachers and librarians who helped make the literacy tour a fun success!
